Śānti
Yoga is pleased to offer
yoga programs for children and teens—
continuing our vocation to support the
health and well-being of our students,
our community, and our world…

Strong Bodies
Free Spirits
Focused Minds
Yoga for the Young of Heart!
(10% of all proceeds from these programs
goes directly
to support children’s education
in Boxford)
In addition to supporting physical well-being, bodily
strength, flexibility and coordination, the yoga program
for the young of heart here at Śānti Yoga
is designed to encourage awareness of the body/mind
connection and to promote and enhance spiritual, moral,
and emotional development. This is not a ‘Disneyland’ experience,
but, rather, is a full yogic program for young people.
Through creative and organic movement of the physical
body, development of breath-awareness through playful
meditative exercises, and through guided visualization,
children and teens are given the ability to:
-
develop inner- and outer-strength,
with open hearts and light spirits
-
improve their ability to focus
-
build self-esteem
-
develop a sense of authenticity
in their relationships
-
release stress
-
learn to relax completely
-
develop a sense of inner
peace as well as harmony with the natural environment
-
cultivate
a sense of compassion, responsibility and connection
to their community and to the larger social and
global environment
-
allow their
spirits, their connection with the universe,
with the divine, to soar…

What will the students learn from
the Śānti
Yoga
programs for children and teens?
Ethical behavior towards self and others, self-discipline,
physical movement (through asana practice, or postures),
breathing exercises to focus and calm the mind (pranayama),
concentration activities, such as story-telling, games
and group sharing/discussion (pratyahara), relaxation
and meditation through creative visualization,. Students
will learn about the art and science of yoga by developing
an understanding of the energy centers within the subtle
body (the chakras), about the life-force (prana), and
about developing healthier habits through Ayurveda
(diet and life-style choices). Each class in the program
will incorporate elements of cooperative and creative
education (satsang), fostering the young person’s
sense of morality and ethics. This portion of the program
is designed to teach, in a manner that is ‘light-of-spirit,’ the
core values of yogic philosophy:
Non-violence, Truthfulness, Non-stealing, Moderation, & Non-possessiveness
Each student (and parent) agrees to abide by these
values by signing a student contract at the outset
of the program.
Finally, students learn how to bring these values
into their everyday lives, off the mat.
We practice not only for our own benefit,
but for the benefit of all beings…
Won’t you and your child join us?
