Chris
Warner (M. Ed., CYT) has been practicing
yoga for more than a decade and has had many
years of private instruction, both here and
abroad. Notably, her teachers in Massachusetts
include Elliot MacEldowney, currently teaching
at O2 Yoga in Somerville and at Yoga Mandala
in Winchester. Chris has also studied under
Lisa Bickerstaff of Maui, HI, and with Carole
Cousin of St. Bart’s; most recently,
her teachers have included Sarah Powers (Insight
Meditation and Yin Yoga) and Paulie Zink (Taoist
Yoga, Yin and Flow). Chris holds a Master’s
Degree in Human Development and Statistics
from Harvard University, and taught Research
Methods and Statistics at Boston College for
several years. She also served a two-year internship
at the Sheppard and Enoch-Pratt Hospital in
Baltimore, Maryland, working with long-term
inpatients who presented with a variety of
mental-health challenges and addictions. Chris
is also certified to teach children’s
yoga at Levels I and II— Color-Me-Yoga© with
Marsha Metzger.
Over the last few years, Chris has focused
her practice and studies on Yin Yoga and Mindfulness
Meditation training. This practice draws upon
the tenets of ancient wisdom systems such as
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda,
as well as on the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism
and Taoism. Readings from the
Tao Te Ching are
often part of the discussion during yoga
sessions.
On
a personal note, Chris deeply believes in
that which she now shares with others in
her role as teacher. She and her husband,
Mike Maguire, have seen the healing power
of this practice through the many challenges
that they have recently faced. In the late
summer of 2006, Mike suffered a series of 3
strokes (transient ischemic attacks), and he
subsequently underwent intra-extra cranial
brain by-pass surgery. Miraculously, he returned
home to recover, only to then lose his long-time
position as vice-president of his company,
and to see his other company sold. Through
their commitment to the practice of Yin/Yang
Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation, they have
been able to come through these challenges,
in health, mind and spirit. The body, the mind
and the spirit all have the power to heal,
and the yoga and meditation practice prepares
the fertile ground in which the healing begins
to take root and to flourish. Today, Mike continues
in his long-time profession, healthy, free
and strong, and life goes on, in all of its
varied and precious moments…
Chris
continues to study and to practice, honored
to learn and share along the way with her
students, but always continuing to be a student
herself, cultivating a beginner’s
mind…
